Sawdust is the residue from the wood sawing process and comprises fine particles of wood. It has many practical uses. It can be used as fuel in the form of sawdust pellets, in a sawdust burner, boiler or even in a sawdust furnace.
In agriculture it is used as animal bedding, as a mulch for the garden and can even be used in a humanoid toilet!! However one of the most practical uses is in the manufacture of chipboard.
In the saw mill, sawdust is collected automatcially using suction around the cutting area of the saw. Once itt has been collected it is cleaned and filtered before being passed through a system of pipes to a hopper where the it is stored prior to being packaged as compressed sawdust.
Sawdust from different wood species is used for different purposes, such as the wood shavings from western red cedar. This species contains strong insecticidal compounds, which are well known to repel moths, kill or inhibit the spread of fleas, mites or other pests. Oak Sawdust oak sawdust is simply used to smoke fish.
